The Associate of Science in Nursing (ADN) program prepares graduates to care for clients across the lifespan in diverse healthcare delivery systems. The student will develop critical thinking, knowledge, skills, and competencies relevant to entry level professional nursing practice.

The program also enhances student learning and knowledge, utilizing sound Nursing judgment in the care of patients. The student will utilize the Nursing process as a framework to implement and evaluate care given to individuals, families, and communities across the life span. Students will demonstrate caring and compassion while implementing safe and effective evidenced-based Nursing for individuals from various backgrounds and cultures. Students will successfully demonstrate collaboration as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the management of care utilizing human, physical, financial, and technological resources.

Students will be aware of the importance of life-long learning, taking responsibility for learning, utilizing critical thinking skills and utilizing employability skills via the SCANS model. Active learning opportunities will be made available, encouraged and assessed throughout the program. National Patient Safety Standards and Quality Measures are incorporated throughout.

After satisfactory completion of all courses of this program, students will be eligible to apply for the NCLEX-RN Examination.

The Program Learning Outcomes were drafted utilizing the Philosophy and Mission of PBC - School of Allied Health Sciences, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice, The American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Professional Performance, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Competencies and the National League of Nursing (NLN) Core Competencies. Students will see reference to the Program Learning Outcomes throughout each course in the curriculum, empowering them to monitor their progress.

This program prepares students to meet the requirements of the Florida Department of Health and Board of Nursing for Registered Nurse Education and to eligible for the licensing exams. This program also prepares students: 

• To work as Registered Nurses in a variety of settings in a safe and effective manner
• For employment utilizing the professional behaviors and characteristics congruent with the role and scope of practice for Registered Nursing according to the current State of Florida Nursing Practice Act
• To acquire leadership abilities, utilize evidenced based, ethical and multi-cultural-based Nursing practice, and to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team utilizing interpersonal relationship / communication skills 
• To obtain the General Education Courses required of an Associate of Science Degree so that students may continue to further their education and/or advance in the health care field

Upon completion of this program, the graduate will be able to:

• Construct care plans based on individual strengths and needs for successful patient goal attainment.
• Collaborates in the nursing process for caring, culturally diverse patient centered care across health care settings.
• Communicates through verbal, non-verbal, written or electronic information for the facilitation of multi-disciplinary care.
• Engages in Professional Practice congruent with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
• Complies with standards of professional practice while accepting personal responsibility for actions/behaviors. 
• Provides nursing care using critical thinking to formulate clinical judgments based on the analysis and synthesis of current data and current sources of information.
• Teach health promotion, health maintenance and risk reduction for patients and providers.
• Utilizes human, physical, financial & technological resources effectively to support organizational outcomes while managing patient care.
• Evaluate patient health status through the comprehensive analysis and integration of relevant information.

All applicants must meet the general admission requirements as indicated below:

1. Provide proof of age (must be at least 17.5 years old) - Driver’s License (ID)
2. Provide proof of graduation from high school or its equivalent (GED)
3. Apply and be accepted to PBC - School of Allied Health Science
4. Interview with an admission representative
5. Complete the application for the appropriate program
6. Demonstrate an ability to meet applicable program-specific requirements
7.  Provide an application fee of $150
8. Complete and sign an Enrollment Agreement
9. Provide the down payment fee of $2,500 to hold your seat.

Acceptable Proof of High School Diploma or GED

• High school diploma/transcript or G.E.D certification with test scores.
• Academic transcript that indicates the student successfully completed at least a two-year program that is acceptable for full credit toward an associate/bachelor’s degree at any institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
• Foreign high school diploma equivalent to a United States high school diploma
• If an applicant previously entered a program in a degree-granting institution for which a high school diploma was required, the PBC may accept an evaluation from a NACES or AICE approved credentialing agency, certifying that a high school diploma was a requirement for the higher degree program.

Additional Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements and procedures, the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree (RN) has specific requirements for admission. Students must:

• *Achieve a minimum adjusted individual total score of 50 percent on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
• Attain a grade of "C" (at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0) or higher in all General Education course requirements. In accordance with school policy, the GPA will not be "rounded up"
• Submit a criminal background check (level II) and a disposition of any criminal offenses and drug screening, and have health clearance from a physician and negative PPD prior to their clinicals
• Have a current CPR/First Aid & HIV/AIDS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Submit a Nursing Admission Request Packet, with all requirements, for consideration for admission to the program
• Have a personal interview with the Nursing Program Director.

Note:

1. Students are expected to maintain the standards of the school in academic, professional and personal achievement.
2. Orientation will be conducted prior to the start of the class, and an institute catalog is given to each student.
3. The applicant is responsible for providing verifiable proof of graduation from high school, or proof of having satisfied the requirements for high school in a manner recognized by the United States Department of Education.
4. The school does not discriminate regarding age, race, sexual preference, gender, color, creed, religion, veteran status, or national or ethnic origin in the acceptance and admission of students
5. Transfer applicants must provide official transcripts from all schools attended no later than 30 days after the start day of their first semester of enrollment at PBC - School of Allied Health Sciences. Transfer student must show a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale). Transfer credits from national or regional approved institutions will be evaluated and credited after enrollment at PBC - School of Allied Health Sciences
6. Prior to registering, a student should have on file in the Records Office the following:
   - A completed admissions application
   - Transcripts of all previous School work
   - Official transcripts (in a sealed envelope from the previous institution attended) must be sent to the Palm Beach Career Records Office.

N.B.: Incomplete application packets will not be considered, and PBC reserves the right to deny enrollment, if the school deems that an applicant’s proof of graduation cannot be authenticated or verified.

*Minimum passing scores are subject to change as a result of evidence based findings, best practices and program outcomes. Failure to complete and pass the TEAS assessment shall result in the student being administratively withdrawn from the nursing program. Students administratively withdrawn for failure to complete/pass the TEAS on the second attempt will not be considered for re-entry.

All students must have a GPA of 2.0 (letter grade of C) or higher on a 4.0 scale in all general education courses required in the program degree plan prior to starting nursing concentration core courses unless otherwise noted. Additional prerequisites may apply. Please review the catalog for more information and requirements.

All students (except transferred students) enrolled in the Associate of Science in Nursing (RN) Degree program must achieve the minimum composite score on the TEAS prior to starting nursing core courses. Students who do not achieve the minimum composite score of 50 percent on their first attempt are permitted to retest a second time (new fee charged), and failure to achieve minimum passing scores on the second attempt shall result in the student being required to successfully complete the ATI TEAS Comprehensive Study Package or ATI TEAS Smart Prep Course prior to retesting a third time. Students failing a third attempt shall be dismissed from the nursing program. Students are responsible for the cost of the TEAS, ATI TEAS Comprehensive Study Package or ATI TEAS Smart Prep course. The School reserves the right to change the vendor/assessment used for the TEAS Exam at any time without notice.

An Associate of Science in Nursing Degree will be issued to each student who successfully completes the program requirements and satisfies graduation requirements: 

• Student has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 
• Student has completed and passed all required externship hours 
• Student is current with financial obligations to the School 
• Student has met with the Career Services department for assistance with job placement or provides documentation of employment 
• Student has completed an Exit Interview with the Director 
• Student has completed the Graduation Clearance form and submitted it to the Registrar at least 60 days before the last day of class 

In Florida:
